Increase tree canopy in Phoenix-region neighborhoods with low tree equity scores to limit overall heat stress in our communities
Heat was responsible for 625 deaths in Maricopa County in 2023, and the number of heat deaths has been steadily increasing since 2015. The team is focused on expanding Greater Phoenix’s tree cover, but with a focus on equity, highlighting those neighborhoods that are in most need. The team is partnering with American Forests and the City of Phoenix on this work
